2012 Goals: Month 1 Complete.

6 Feb

Well, there’s good news and there’s bad news.

The good news is that one month into 2012 I’m feeling really good about getting into a routine and feel like I’ve actually begun to train myself to get into morning workouts.

The bad news is that I haven’t quite managed to completely tackle all of my 2012 goals successfully. However, I feel like I can’t just throw in the towel and there’s still time to make some adjustments – after all there are some areas I’ve over done it in so with some time I’m just going to let things balance themselves out.

So in an effort to keep myself honest I am going to do a monthly update on how I’m doing.

  1. Set my PR in a half marathon – 1st 1/2 of the year is in May but I did start running in late January after my 12/9/11 injury and so far so good. It’s certainly difficult to get back into running but I’m feeling strong so that’s all I can really hope for.
  2. Get back into swim workouts – Killing it. I’ve been swimming 3-4 days a week since the year started and while swimming will need to take a backseat to running as I prepare for race season I’m swimming around a mile per workout and feeling improvement every time. Which for a girl who didn’t know how to swim until 2009 and then took an 18-month hiatus is pretty rad.
  3. Read 36 books – this averages out to 3 books/month. Month 1: 7 books. So clearly the nerd force has been strong. I’m using my over-perfomance in this goal to compensate for some of the other slacking.
  4. Blog more – at least once a week – well, I woke up this morning and realized I missed last week. So while it will be a goal to blog once a week I have to accept some weeks will get multiple posts and some might get missed.
  5. Cook 24 new recipes this year – Month 1: 7 recipes. Yep, my domestic geek side came out in FULL force. I’ll try and post recipes and my thoughts on them – maybe that can force me into a better weekly blog routine. All of them were successful so no food poisoning and no kitchen fires for this girl.
  6. Complete 1 new craft/DIY project a month (can you tell I’ve been into Pinterest) – I’m going to amend this to be treated like my recipes so it will be 12 craft/DIY projects this year. Mostly because I didn’t get this done in January and I know once I get in the groove with this it’s going to be a couple things at once. I did buy supplies for my crafting just ran out of days in the month to hit my self imposed deadline.
  7. Set schedules – monthly, weekly, etc so I can factor in workouts, cleaning and of course all these goals – Oddly enough the workouts scheduling has been great. The planning for cleaning and other stuff has been good too but it got a little too regimented so I had to scale back a bit.
